Lemon juice in water: How to get more lemon juice from your lemons

June 25th, 2009

The other day, the eatdrinkman.com and I were talking about lemons and our new goal to drink more water. Drinking a lot of water all day was a little boring. So, a couple of us purchased some regular concentrated lemon juice from the grocery store and were adding it to our water for some flavor.

We started talking a little bit more on the benefits of using lemon juice, then we found out that drinking our water with the concentrated lemon juice from the grocery store did NOT have the same health benefits as freshly squeezed lemon juice. To read the reason, please visit http://proliberty.com/observer/20040711.htm.

So, we quickly moved our conversation to using real lemons. EatDrinkMan.com had some great suggestions from the cooking world on how to get the most juice from regular lemons and limes.

Tip 1: Use your lemon or lime when it’s at room temperature.

Tip 2: Big Tip! Before cutting your lemon or lime, squeeze it or press down on it while rolling it on the table. This will break up the insides of the lemon or lime so juice will flow out a lot easier and faster.

Enjoy!

Fax removal number – Solution for unsolicited faxes

February 27th, 2009

Every day I receive some type of fax spam. In the beginning, I would receive a fax maybe once a month. One day, I decided to fix this problem. So, what did I do? I called the fax removal line/number on the bottom of my page and moved on. Great, problem solved. Err, months later, I get one or two faxes every day.

So, how do you fix this problem? Well, I don’t know. But, how about this solution to fight back. Next time you receive a fax from the company, call the number, then enter THEIR contact number. This way, their own system will start spamming themselves!

Daily Challenge: Put all tasks on the calendar

February 12th, 2009

Attempt to put all of my tasks in some place on my calendar. In an effort to actually complete all of my Important/Non-Urgent tasks I’ll put them all on my calendar somewhere to make sure they are completed. Granted, the assumption here is that all Urgent tasks are complete. At this time, no tasks are urgent, so things are well.
I expect I will book all of my tasks, but not complete all of them. I’m also wondering if the art of placing my tasks in a certain time is over engineering my calendar.

Results: Wasn’t able to do it. I didn’t give it enough effort. Will try again this evening. The effort to start this was more than anticipated, but did open up a lot of information. For example, I’d have to weigh the amount of time for each task. Therefore, prioritizing became a higher… well priority. Also, considered looking at batching or bulking some tasks together.

Daily Challenge: Wait at least 1 second before responding

February 11th, 2009

Today starts my daily challenge. Each day I’ll try something new just to see what happens. The goal.. well, to mix it up a little, find out what makes life better.

Today’s challenge is to wait at least 1 second before responding to any question. Why? Well, a lot of times we answer questions and comments like we always have, the same. We’ve had the same conversations hundreds of times. How boring.

So, what would happen if we actually thought about our responses. Would life be better? Would we change how people see us? So, in order to ensure I respond with something new, the requirement would be to actually think. Imagine that. So, by adding a 1 second pause between each response should do the trick.

Predictions: It may startle some. They may think I’m frozen. I’m predicting I’ll have some more thought provoking conversations.

Results: I couldn’t do it. It appears as though a lot of common phrases elicit reactive responses from me. I’m going to try again today and see how it goes. On a general note, it’s easier to see the reflexive responses in others. On a general note, how many conversations are real?

Right now, it’s hard to find a job or lead in this economy. If you’re looking for a full time job, part time, contract, or just some regular business, why not add some incentive? It’s free! The idea is that if anything can help, maybe this will. Imagine, if you’re a full time person and you know about a job opening, maybe you’ll find someone looking in your area. Contact them, if they get the job, you’ll get the bonus.

Imagine if you’ve been paying someone for leads, offer some incentive here. For example, let’s say you sell insurance. You can post your information here and they’ll contact you. Plus, you don’t have to pay to list your company.

Time management and video games

December 16th, 2008

I’m not sure which is worse, video games or TV. But if you’re in to video games, you probably need to take a break. I’ve found myself spending more time playing video games than TV. It all came to reality one day after I completed a game. At the end, it told me I had played for 100 hours. Holy cow, 100 hours. If I was able to work and make money for that amount of time, I could have made a ton.

The key to remember is, is this thing I’m doing better than something else. Heck, even sleeping would have been a better use of my time. Also, is that show you’re watching making you smarter? Chances are it’s not. Tomorrow morning, try to remember what show you watched last night. You may not even remember.

Total time savings, 100 hours.

Tasks and keeping focused

December 16th, 2008

Ok, every day, I go through each day and come up with tons of ideas. Easily I can get distracted and start on a tangent search on the internet only to forget my original task.

Big tip, keep Outlook or, if you’re online all the time Remember The Milk, open. Each time you have an idea, post it in as a task. Later on when you review your tasks, decide if the thought or idea is worth researching. Chances are, it’s not. This idea alone could save you at least one hour a day.

Someone sent me a domain registration renewal in the mail

December 16th, 2008

This comes up every once in a while from my clients. A company, names not mentioned, will send you a domain name renewal letter in the mail. I’m not sure if you should call it a scam or not, but it will definitely cost you more money. What these companies do is find out when your domain name expires, or find a version of your domain name and send you the letter. The letter looks pretty convincing, but essentially, it’s a company trying to renew your domain name from your existing company and charge you up to 10 times more than you can spend. Don’t fall for it. Contact the person that registered your domain to find out the real situation. If you’re spending more than $10 for you domain name, contact JoesWebShack.com for a cheaper price. That’s what we use.

Google Base experiment – The beginning, first blog

December 11th, 2008

Ok, times can be tough. So, I tried to come up with some ideas to produce some recurring revenue. My first experiment is to market one of my existing reseller programs Joe’s Web Shack. This program allows me to make a small amount of money without doing anything, with the exception of marketing (key number 1). As a web developer, my initial reasons for joining this reseller program was to capture any revenues I was sending to others. Since this reseller program allows me to sell domain names, hosting, etc, it is a perfect compliment to my business. So, back on topic, my goals are to figure out a way to market this product without having to do anything. This way, I can continue to make revenue without adding extra workload to may day.

So, my goals are as follows:
1. Market the site
2. Make money without having to do any work… at some point creating recurring revenue.
3. Have the site market itself

Background of the reseller program:
1. No inventory for me to handle
2. I don’t have to answer customer service questions
3. Recurring customers.
4. Hard for customers to switch
5. Monthly revenue

Later, I should put together a listing of the guidelines for the ultimate company.

So, the idea is to market the reseller program better. I had heard about Google Base and wanted to try it. I had heard about it from some of my e-commerce clients. Google Base allows e-commerce companies to submit their products directly into Google’s search. Pretty cool idea considering it takes less that 24 hours to get listed. Why spend hours worth of time in SEO when you can type directly into

So, I started simply and here are the steps I took. Total time, maybe one hour.
1. I chose a base item
2. Signed up for Google Base
3. Listed the item
4. Watched it in the reports.

I soon became addicted to the reports as I saw the number of views grow. Later I realized some of those numbers were me.

Results, not too bad. Here’s what I found:
1. I can get listed extremely quickly
2. I was able to attract customers and links very quickly although, not a ton. But, that may be because of the product.
3. After adding several other products, I was able to quickly see which products generated more links and clicks.
4. Next step is to focus and zoom in on the most popular products.

Recommendation: Go for it. Google Base is definitely worth it. My next step will involve automating this process so I don’t have to touch it again.
